Summary
The Crescendo Group LLC is seeking one (1) part-time Business Development Intern to assist with research for funding and grant/loan applications. The intern will gain exposure to the startup space and knowledge of fundraising for a social enterprise.
The mission of Crescendo is to work with women survivors of armed conflicts and gender-based violence (GBV) to increase economic empowerment by developing a marketplace of handmade items for socially conscious consumers and retailers. Together, we are selling more than products; we are raising voices.
Crescendo is based in Washington, DC and currently work with partner organizations in Kosovo and DC area. In 2019, expansion plans include Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and Syrian refugees in Jordan, Turkey, and Europe.
Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with a good sense of humor, flexibility, and adaptability who is willing to learn and lend their talents to further Crescendo’s mission. Diverse candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Analyze and understand the marketplace, including competitors and competitive dynamics
Provide input on sales strategies based on research and market analysis
Conduct research on small business grants and funding opportunities for Crescendo
Assist with applications for grants, loans, and other funding opportunities
Seek out pitch competitions appropriate for Crescendo and update Crescendo’s pitch desk accordingly
Seek out speaking opportunities and events for Crescendo to participate in
Qualifications
Knowledge of and strong commitment to human rights, gender equality, and/or refugee assistance
College student, junior or senior preferred, but will also consider non-student candidates. Preferably Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Women’s Studies, or Political Science majors but applications from all majors welcomed!
Able to commit 5-10 hours per week
Excellent research and writing skills
Creativity, humor, willingness to learn
Must be responsive to emails
Details: The intern is asked to be available 5-10 hours per week and can work from any location. Internships with Crescendo are an excellent way to build your resume while gaining valuable experience. By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to have produced numerous deliverables.
Start and end dates are to be determined based on academic schedule, if applicable. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, until the positions are filled.
