Soft Launch of The Crescendo Group on World Refugee Day (June 20, 2018)

It is not an accident that The Crescendo Group is being introduced to the public on June 20, 2018. Today is World Refugee Day. According to the UNHCR (the UN refugee agency), an estimated 50% of displaced peoples are girls and women. The conditions in refugee camps are abysmal and dangerous; women and girls are vulnerable to sexual exploitation and trafficking. Even after resettling into their new homes or, when it’s possible, after returning to their homes before the conflict, women are often overlooked in nation-building projects, education systems, health systems, and in job creation. This is especially true in predominantly patriarchal societies.
However, particularly after armed conflicts, women outnumber the men. The women survive to mourn the loss of their homes, their former lives, husbands, brothers, and other family members and friends. But they survive. And they have many stories to tell.
The mission behind The Crescendo Group is to increase women’s economic empowerment by providing access to export markets. Buyers are not only supporting the women by making these purchases, but they are also getting their stories out. They are helping to raise voices together.
